Duties
Sprinkler fitters measure and cut steel or plastic pipes for installation using blueprints and local building codes as a guide. They then must attach sprinkler heads and fittings to pipes and ensure pipe systems do not have any leaks. Sprinkler fitters often use equipment such as ladders and scaffolding to perform installations, mostly in commercial construction, according to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. They also perform National Fire Protection Association inspections
Skills
The ability to pay strong attention to detail is critical for sprinkler fitters, as this is necessary to prevent injuries on the job. Sprinkler fitters must be able to understand complex blueprints and possess solid written and verbal communication skills as well, according to USAManufacturingJobs.com.
