Interior Designer

The incumbent provides complete, from concept to installation, interior design services for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and satellite facilities. Duties includs:
Performing and managing work related to the design of interior environments in order to promote employee productivity, health, and welfare, and/or the health and welfare of the public. Provides plans, consultation, advice, specifications, and designs for virtually all spaces involved in new construction and/or renovation. Reviews Architect/Engineer submittals for compliance with VA regulations and facility design criteria. Acts as a technical representative for design and finish specifications matters. Influences design of new construction from conception through activation by an in-depth knowledge of use requirements and availability of furnishings to fulfill these requirements; ensures that appropriately designed color schemes are formulated for all renovation and new construction projects. Develops and maintains a schedule of short and long range interior-improvement projects for the entire medical facility through the 5-year interior design plan, 5-year Strategic Plan and other programs to identify existing and future project needs. preparation of the operating budget, floor plans, finish specifications, finish schedules, presentation boards, and accurate cost-estimates. Originates orders for furnishings, window treatments, patient cubicle curtains, floor coverings, wall art, ambient lighting, and all other interior design-related accoutrements. Selects items based upon:
patient, visitor, and staff needs; VA and facility standards, General Services Administration (GSA) contract sources; and available resources. Prepares interior design budgetary requirements for major and minor construction projects for supplemental and future funding by VISN/VHA Headquarters. Active participant of all committees that significantly impact the Interior Design Program of the medical center. Performs other related interior design duties as assigned. Work schedule:

Specialized Experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this Interior Designer position and that is typically in or related to the work of the Interior Designer position. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in Federal service. - Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education with a major study in interior design or other directly related field such as interior architecture or interior environmental design. Possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience in order to qualify for the Interior Designer position? (Transcript Required). Specialized experience is defined as performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as:
a.)Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment. b.) Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings. c.) Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. d.) Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context. e.) Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc. Education must have been in Interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design; or passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. To qualify based solely on education alone, you must include a copy of your transcript with your name, name of school, degree earned and date, grades earned, credit hours, major(s), and grade point average or class ranking with your resume or application form. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09 level. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
