Lead Medical Support Assistant

The Lead Medical Support Assistant (MSA) position serves as the Lead Clerk for all Medical Support Assistant (MSA) to include Medical Records and ROI, Patient Services Assistant and/or Program Support Assistant (PSA) staff and is a foundational role within the VHA Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) initiative. Patient care is delivered in a team-based model known as the teamlet. Members of the teamlet include the MSA, a Registered Nurse Care Manager, a Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse and a primary care provider. The Lead MSA will monitor and make work assignment for all MSA's and provide input on performance, resolve daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflow. Assignments at this level include but are not limited to:
assuring coverage of all areas of responsibility, conducting ongoing audits to ensure compliance with VA guidelines, timely completion of assignments, and generating various Eligibility reports. Lead Eligibility MSA monitors enrolled patient data base information on a regular basis to perform updates to health insurance data, income assessments for the Means Test and Pharmacy Co-pay Exemption programs as mandated by law. The Lead Eligibility MSA comes under the direct supervision of the Chief Patient Administration Section. The employee plans and organizes work with general assistance from the supervisor as to meet local and VA-wide time frames to complete the major duties and responsibilities of this position. The Lead Eligibility MSA is responsible for reporting backlogs, difficulties in meeting deadlines, etc to the supervisor. S/he routinely communicates with providers, care managers, and other allied health professionals using sound interpersonal skills, and is constantly aware of the sensitive information. Otherwise, works independently making decisions based on guidelines, precedents and regulations, and performs duties in such a manner that only minimal supervision is required. Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; or Education. One year above high school; or Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. English Language Proficiency:
MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Grade Determinations:
GS-7 Lead Medical Support Assistant The following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. GS-7 Lead Medical Support Assistant - One year of experience equivalent to the GS-6 Assignment - The Lead MSA monitors and makes work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient workflow. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to:
assuring coverage of all areas of responsibility; conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work; ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; creating and maintaining employee work schedules; orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees; ensuring all training requirements are met; organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas; and acting as liaison between MSA and staff in order to resolve day to day conflicts. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard at the specified grade level and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage priorities, and coordinate work in order to complete duties in an accurate and timely manner. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrating an understanding of the impact of incomplete work. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.The duties and responsibilities of the position requires some mobility between various Clinic areas in separate building location sites (if applicable), but generally the job is sedentary with some standing, stooping, reaching, and lifting; up to 20 pounds. Incumbent is required to work with computer equipment.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
