Major duties and responsibilities include:
Performs seasonal gardening tasks, cultivating a wide variety of plants in flower and shrub beds; Prepares soil for plants by fertilizing, aerating, mulching; Seeds, thins, transplants, prunes, and sprays/dusts ground cover, flowers, shrubs, trees; Mulchs flower beds and removes weeds by hand and through application of chemicals; Recommends changes for improvement in overall landscape plan and obtains approval from Grounds Supervisor; Inspects plants, trees, and shrubs for disease, insects, and unusual or poor plant growth; Operates high reach manual equipment for pruning trees, cleaning out gutters, etc.; Plans and carries out scheduled seasonal preparation of flower beds and ornamental planting areas; Mows, edges, fertilizes, and waters lawns; Blows/rakes leaves and ensures entranceways are free of debris; Operates street sweeper for roadway and parking lot maintenance; Assists in the application of sand and other materials where ice has accumulated due to winter storms; Haul heavy equipment and supplies to and from work sites; Maintains interior gardens such as the Plant Atrium and Serenity Garden; Performs other related duties as assigned. This position requires walking, standing, bending, pushing, pulling, stretching, and stooping for long periods of time. He/she is responsible for moving heavy materials, equipment to/from work sites. Ladders are used for pruning and trimming large shrubbery/trees and for cleaning out building gutters, etc. Muscular effort and coordination is required to operate various controls on power landscaping equipment. Work is primarily performed outside and conditions are often dirty and noisy. The incumbent is subject to discomfort from long periods in the hot sun and in cold and rainy weather. Incumbent will be exposed to chemical sprays, fertilizer dust, pollen, etc. Working conditions are such that the worker must constantly be mindful of safety precautions in order to limit the possibility of accidents, contamination, and personal injury or injury to others within the work area. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
